This week, we will momentarily shift away from the more internationally-oriented roots reggae and ska as we bring you some tunes with a more sparse and less political and religious variant of reggae.
Bash 'em up 'cuz its Dancehall time!
This subgenre of Jamaican reggae music is often played everywhere on small island via sound-systems with large mobile speakers. As you walk along Jamaican city streets, you will hear the deep and pounding bass coming from massive sound systems blaring the current, popular and the loudest dancehall reggae. The music voices out the current concerns, conflicts, fantasies, and frustrations and evolved in offering an escape, a humor, and a new outlook towards the country's harsh economic situation. Listening to Dancehall is the best tool to learn the Jamaican language. :-)
On February 14, Soundblasters will spin some hot selected dancehall tracks at Hajime Bar in Angono. Catch Neighbors there too as they play acoustic ska, reggae and all your favorite songs! Soundblasting starts at 8pm. WE RIDE AGAIN!
